What Three Months of Acting Training Actually Changes
Most people arrive at an acting class able to speak perfectly well in ordinary life and completely unable to do it with a camera pointed at them. The first few weeks are about removing that self-consciousness — not by talking about confidence, but by putting students on their feet so often that being watched stops being an event.
By the second month, the work shifts from you to the character. Students analyse scripts for objective and subtext, rehearse with a scene partner, and learn to make specific choices instead of generalised emoting. By the third, the same student who could barely finish a monologue is shooting scenes, watching the footage back and adjusting a performance deliberately. That loop — perform, watch, adjust — is the single most valuable habit an actor can leave a course with.
Screen Acting and Stage Acting Are Different Crafts
A theatre performance has to reach the last row: voice carries, gestures are larger, energy is sustained across a whole act without a reset. Screen work is the opposite discipline. The camera sees thought, so the smallest honest reaction beats the biggest performed one, and the actor has to repeat that reaction identically across takes shot hours apart from different angles.
Our adult programs train both because working actors in Hyderabad need both. The morning intensive is camera-led. The evening theatre workshop builds the voice, stamina and presence that make camera work effortless. Students who do both tend to progress fastest.
Preparing for Your First Audition
- Know the scene, not just the lines. Memorising dialogue is the minimum. Casting directors are watching what you want in the scene and what stands in your way.
- Make a choice and commit. A clear, specific, slightly wrong choice reads far better than a safe, vague, technically correct one.
- Learn your self-tape setup. Framing, clean sound, neutral background and steady eyeline — most auditions now begin as a video, and a bad tape is never watched twice.
- Prepare two contrasting monologues. One dramatic, one light, each under two minutes and comfortable enough to perform on request.
- Treat the room professionally. Arrive early, slate clearly, take direction without arguing, and leave without explaining yourself.
Batches, Admission and Fees
New batches start through the year, and admission depends on seats available in your preferred batch. Selection is through an interview and interaction rather than an application form — it lets us understand your goals, current level and availability, and lets you ask everything before committing. Interview timings are shared personally over the phone.
Course fees depend on the program and batch you choose, and are shared during that conversation along with the current schedule. Call or message 97015 04619 or 74169 04619, or email info@dsquarefilmacademy.com, and we will walk you through the options. If you are enrolling a child instead, see the children's acting programs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age limit for the adult acting programs?
The adult batches are built for students from late teens upwards, and we regularly train working professionals in their thirties and forties. There is no upper age limit — casting needs actors of every age.
Can I join if I have a full-time job?
Yes. The 7:00–9:00 AM morning batch and the 7:00–9:00 PM theatre workshop are designed around working schedules, and one-to-one coaching can be arranged entirely around your availability.
What is the difference between the morning intensive and the film acting workshop?
The morning intensive runs three months and builds complete foundations, from voice and movement to full scene work. The film acting workshop runs ten days and above and concentrates on camera technique and audition skills for students who already have some grounding or limited time.
Do I need a portfolio or showreel to apply?
No. You need nothing but availability and willingness. Footage from your scene work during the course is what most students use to build a first showreel.
What happens after I finish the course?
Students who complete a program receive mentorship for auditions, casting and internships through the academy's casting agency. We prepare actors and connect them to opportunities; we do not promise roles.
Where exactly are the classes held?
All classes are held at the academy in Sri Krishna Nagar, Yousufguda, Hyderabad, within easy reach of Ameerpet, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Begumpet.
